Privacy policy

Who we are

Benchmark Computers is a hardware comparison site run by a sole trader trading as Benchmark Computers. For anything in this policy, reach us at privacy@benchmark-computers.co.uk. We are the data controller for the limited processing described below.

What we collect

Almost nothing. The site is a set of static pages. We run no user accounts, no sign-up, no contact forms, and no advertising or analytics trackers. We do not build a profile of you and we do not sell data, because we do not hold any.

What stays on your device

When you tick parts to compare, we save those choices in your browser's local storage so the comparison survives a refresh. That data never leaves your device and we never receive it. Clear your browser storage to remove it.

Hosting

We host the site with a reputable third-party cloud hosting provider. To deliver pages and defend against attacks, that provider processes standard request information, which can include your IP address, for a short time. We do not keep our own copy of that information or use it to identify you. The provider acts as our processor under its own security and privacy terms.

Links to retailers

Some pages link to retailers through affiliate partners such as Awin, Amazon, Best Buy and eBay. When you click one of those links the retailer or its network may set its own cookies to credit the referral. Those cookies are theirs, set on their sites after you click, and are governed by their privacy policies. See our affiliate disclosure.

Embedded price charts

On some product pages we embed a price-history chart from Keepa, loaded as an image directly from their servers. Because it loads automatically, your browser sends your IP address and the page you are on to Keepa when the chart appears, before you click anything. We pass them nothing else, and we set no cookie for it. Keepa handles that request under its own privacy policy. If you would rather it never loaded, a content blocker that blocks graph.keepa.com will hide the chart with no other effect on the site.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask what data we hold, request a copy, or ask us to correct or delete it. Since we hold no personal data about visitors, there is usually nothing to return, but we will answer any request. Email privacy@benchmark-computers.co.uk. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Changes

If we add anything that processes personal data, such as analytics or accounts, we will update this page and the date above before it goes live.
